K-5Rainbow Milk Explosion
A few drops of soap turn a plate of milk into a swirling, colorful explosion of color!

This experiment hasn't been filmed yet — check back after the next SASSY Science classroom visit.
What you need
- A shallow plate
- Whole milk
- Food coloring (several colors)
- Dish soap
- A cotton swab
Why it works
Milk is full of tiny fat molecules. Dish soap breaks apart fat, and it rushes around the plate searching for more fat to attack. As the soap zooms through the milk, it drags the food coloring along with it, creating those wild swirling colors.
